Welcome to the third and final installment for the Gods of March newsletter series. The first installment focused on how Saturn’s shift into Pisces on March 7 will have an influence on the next 2.5 years, and the second focused on the impact that Mars’s retrograde has on the Aries season, which began on March 20 and ends on April 20. If you are interested in reading either of these installments, you can find them here:
Saturn's Shift into Pisces: Bringing Dreams into Form
Aries Season & the Evolution of the God of War.
As powerful as these astrological events are, the most significant planetary shift occurred 4 days ago on March 23, when Pluto dipped into Aquarius for the first time in 245 years. Pluto’s movement into this sign is the biggest astrology of the year and has an influence on the next two decades! Let’s dive in.
Pluto & His Movement into New Signs
Pluto is one of the furthest known planets from our Sun, taking about 248 years to complete one full orbit. Due to Pluto’s erratic path through the zodiacal constellations, it can take Pluto anywhere from 13 to 32 years to transit an entire zodiac sign. Since it takes Pluto years to move into new signs, when he does it indicates that humanity is primed and ready to make a collective shift into a new era.
The last time Pluto shifted into a new sign was 15 years ago, when he moved into Capricorn in 2008. Thinking back to where you were in 2008 and how much you have evolved in the last 15 years, especially in the realm of work and career, can show how Pluto in Capricorn has helped you grow during this time. From a collective standpoint, this long transit illuminated the flaws of how societal structures like the governmental, financial, health care, and academic systems are set up. Pluto shows what isn’t working, so that we can see what needs to change.
The Planet of Power in the Sign of the Future
Pluto is the Lord of the Underworld and his magic uncovers the shadow. He rules power, evolution, higher will, and death and rebirth. Pluto can be viewed as the snake shedding its skin or the phoenix rising from the ashes. He teaches his lessons through the destruction of that which is no longer in alignment and trusting that what is falling away is meant to. Aquarius is the sign of revolution, change, innovation, authenticity, and the future. It rules technology and AI. This sign is group and community oriented.
Pluto has not activated the Aquarian part of the sky since 1778. Due to Pluto’s slow orbital speed and annual retrogrades, he will shift back and forth twice between the 29th degree of Capricorn and the 0 degree mark of Aquarius before fully making the transition at the end of next year. The dates that Pluto will be dipping into Aquarius are March 23, 2023 and January 20, 2024. Then on November 19, 2024, Pluto will no longer go back into Capricorn and will officially be in the Aquarian sign for 20 years!
It should be noted that 29 degrees and 0 degrees are highly significant in astrology. The 29th degree is the final degree of a sign and represents completion, while 0 degrees represents new beginnings. Pluto moving between these two positions for over a year shows that we have entered a window of time that is asking us to truly let go of what is old and outdated in our lives (jobs, relationships, behaviors, limiting beliefs, etc.), so that we can fully bring in the new.
Since this Pluto shift is a precursor to a two decades-long journey (Pluto will exit Aquarius in 2044), it goes without saying that life on the other side of this transit will look very different than it does now. Many things can happen in a span of 20 years so it is difficult to list everything that may take place, but there are a few themes that this first Pluto shift is illuminating that could extend the length of the entire transit:
Technology will undergo enormous and rapid change. Be sure the technology you work with is in alignment with your values.
Finding the balance between individuality and community. How can we show up and honor our group and community spaces, while not forgetting about or diminishing our personal innate gifts?
Power dynamics in communities, social circles, and friendships. If dynamics are out of balance (one or few hold the power), Pluto will highlight the imbalance so that we can work toward equality.
Since Aquarius rules space and astronomy, the idea that humans are the only life forms in the universe (which has always been statistically impossible based on the gargantuan size of the universe) will be put on notice.
One of the biggest collective gifts of Pluto going into Aquarius is that it represents the shift of power—from the power of the few, to power for all.
Pluto in Aquarius: Know Who You Are
Pluto transits tend to highlight collective and global themes. However, there is one major theme from this transit that focuses on our personal lives. Pluto not only rules power, but empowerment as well. Aquarius is the sign of authenticity. This shows that the upcoming 20-year Pluto journey through Aquarius is encouraging us to know and be our truest selves. Since this is a Plutonian journey, uncovering our most authentic selves will take honesty, vulnerability, and a willingness to explore our shadows and acknowledge our light. This may feel uncomfortable at times, especially if we tend to shrink ourselves to fit inside mainstream societal ideals or judge the pieces of ourselves that cannot or will not conform. Despite the intensity that this transit may bring, Pluto in Aquarius is paving the way for us to stop hiding our light, to lean into our uniqueness, and to know our worth. This is because “when you don’t follow your nature, there is a hole in the universe where you were supposed to be”— Astrologer, Dane Rudhyar.
Taking it Further
If you are familiar with your birth chart, look to see if you have any planets or angles at the 29th degree of Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn or the 0 degree mark of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, or Aquarius as Pluto will be activating these planets and angles over the next year and 8 months. Remember, Pluto journeys can get intense, but the wisdom gained from going through them is always worth it. Trust the process.

This is especially interesting when overlaid with our historical awareness of the 2008 financial crisis and the literal Revolutionary War which was in 1778. Guess we’re in it now 🤪
Whoa!!! [insert emoji crying/laughing with hair blown back here]
Alright, Pluto, let's do this thing!!!
Thank you Natasha for showing when to turn into the wind and trust the cosmic process!
