March’s Most Significant Astrology
March 7: Saturn shifts into Pisces
March 16: Mars exits post-retrograde phase
March 23: Pluto dips into Aquarius
Hello everyone and welcome to the first official newsletter of the year! We are 15 days into March, which is one of the most astrologically significant months of 2023. Since this month is stacked with important astrology due to 3 planets shifting into new zodiac signs, I have decided to release 3 newsletter installments that correspond to each planetary shift. The first installment focuses on Saturn’s shift into Pisces, the second will focus on Mars’s retrograde journey that began in August 2022 and will complete at the end of this month, and the third will focus on Pluto’s dip into Aquarius, which is one of the biggest astrological events of this year (and next!).
Saturn, Mars, and Pluto are powerful Roman gods that represent ambition, willpower, and evolution. Their planetary namesakes all moving into new territory within weeks of each other indicates that we are in part of the year that is inviting us to take our next steps on our life paths. 2023 is a year that is setting the stage for us to boldly move in the direction of our wildest dreams, and March’s astrology is helping us cultivate the courage to do so. Let’s dive in.
Saturn & Pisces: The Meeting of Opposites
Last week, on March 7, Saturn shifted into Pisces. Saturn hasn’t been in this sign for 29 years. Saturn will be transiting Pisces’s watery domain for 2.5 years. Some say that serious Saturn doesn’t sit well in the mystical sign of Pisces because they represent completely opposite energies—Saturn represents reality, while Pisces represents dreams; Saturn’s energy is grounded, while Piscean energy is transcendent; Saturn represents boundaries, while Pisces dissolves them; Saturn appreciates a seemingly linear path, while Pisces values the non-linear route; Saturn represents structure, while Pisces represents an ocean of boundless potential. No matter how different Saturn and Pisces may be, when opposites meet they have the chance to balance each other’s shadow and bring each of their gifts to the fore.
The gifts that Saturn in Pisces offers can be seen in some of the themes we may experience during this 2.5 year Saturn transit. Some of these themes include:
Facing our fears of the unknown, and trusting our intuition especially when our path forward is unclear
Surrendering our need to control situations and outcomes
Deepening our individual spiritual practices
Downloads, visions, etc. that come through meditation or dreams can become more common during this transit
Setting and keeping our personal boundaries, and letting go of any guilt that may arise when we do
Profound healing of emotions and experiences that we may have stored in shadow or the unconscious
Realizing that we are not responsible for anyone else’s healing journey; only our own
Of course, depending on how our birth charts are structured, this Saturn transit will influence us differently and in varying degrees of intensity. With that said, there is one overarching theme that is being underscored for everyone during this transit, no matter what our birth charts look like—making our dreams come true.
The Planet of Reality in the Sign of Dreams
Saturn is the planet of manifestation and reality and Pisces is the sign of imagination and dreams. This 2.5 year transit shows that we are being supported in making our dreams a reality. This transit can help us do this because Saturn assists us in getting real about the steps we need to take in order to achieve what we would like to, and Pisces helps us see the importance of having a dream, no matter how farfetched it may seem.
There are several important things to note about this particular theme. First, this transit is on the lengthier side, so know that you don’t need to rush when you are in the process of figuring out what your dreams are or bringing your dreams into form. Next, both Saturn and Pisces in their shadows rule fear. This reminds us that accomplishing our dreams is as much of an internal process as it is an external one. The fear of failure as well as the fear of success can often discourage us from taking steps toward living the life we envision. It is key during this transit to face and work through blocks we may hold that bar us from living out our dreams.
Lastly, Pisces rules imagination. Imagination holds our dreams, innovation, and creativity. The word imagination, however, sometimes gets conflated with the word imaginary. When this happens, the dreams and visions stored in our imagination get labeled as unrealistic, impractical, or impossible and we can invalidate our dreams before we’ve even had the chance to try to bring them to life. This Saturn in Pisces transit reminds us just how powerful our imaginations are and offers us opportunities to envision and imagine the lives we’d like to lead, the world we’d like to live in, and then take steps, big and small, toward making it real.
Taking It Further
If you are familiar with your birth chart, look to where Pisces is in your chart, paying close attention to the house, planets, or angles you have in this sign, as this will show how Saturn’s transit will impact you.
A special note for those experiencing a Saturn return: A Saturn return is when transiting Saturn returns to the exact location he was at when you were born. We can experience up to three Saturn returns in our lifetimes. The first occurs when we are about 29 years old, the second when we are about 58 years old, and the third when we are about 88 years old. Each return of Saturn brings different lessons, but what is consistent for each return is that Saturn is asking us to step more fully into our personal authority and power. In doing so Saturn returns act as revolutionary turning points on our journeys of personal transformation.
If your birthday falls in the range of dates listed below, you were born when Saturn was in Pisces and will be experiencing a Saturn return in the next 2.5 years.
January 28, 1994—April 6, 1996
March 24, 1964—September 15, 1964
December 16, 1964—March 2, 1967
February 14, 1935—April 24, 1937
October 18, 1937—January 13, 1938

A special note for Capricorns (or anyone that resonates with Saturn energy): Since Saturn rules the sign of Capricorn, anyone with prominent Capricorn placements may feel Saturn’s transit through Pisces on a deeper level. Pay extra attention to your process of how you accomplish goals, tasks, projects, etc., as your process may be up for review over the next few years, especially if it has entailed working through or past exhaustion to get something completed. Saturn in Pisces is encouraging us all (Capricorns or not) to remember that rest is an integral part of achievement. We can accomplish our dreams and goals in healthy ways, so that when we reach the finish line we feel rejuvenated rather than depleted.
You have a prominent Capricorn placement if you have any of these planets or angles in the Capricorn sign: Sun, Moon, Rising, Midheaven, Saturn, Chiron.
